SOEE3450 | Structural Geology |
Module replaces
EARS5136M (in part)This module is not approved as an Elective
Objectives
On completion of this module students should be able to:- use a suite of data sets, including reflection seismic, well data and outcrop data to analyse a variety of structural styles,
- understand the development of structures in different tectonics setting and scales,
- apply appropriate structural models to evaluate the spatial and temporal evolution of folds and fault arrays,
- develop and apply strategies, including section generation and restorations techniques, to validate structural interpretations,
- compare and contrast the understanding of fold development from a geometric and geomechanical standpoint.
Syllabus
FCourse introduction; geometric and geomechanical analysis of folds; expression of folds and faults in reflection seismic; relationship between folds and faults; section construction and restorations; spatial and temporal variations in 3D fault evolution; fault populations; inversion tectonics; salt tectonics.
