Objectives

This module introduces students to current, new and emerging technologies that are commonly employed in the design disciplines. On completion of this module, students will be aware of how artists and designers utilise such technologies to create unique outcomes.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- demonstrate a familiarity with the way in which technology can enhance the art/ design discipline of their choice;
- demonstrate an ability to evaluate the appropriateness of various technologies to their discipline;
- confidently discuss how leading artists and/or designers have made use of technologies in their practice.

Syllabus

In this module, students will be introduced to a range of technologies which find use in art and design. Each week a new genre of technology will be introduced, explained and current examples of usage demonstrated. Examples from all the disciplines taught within the school will be demonstrated (such as knitted bags made on a fusion deposition modeller and laser cut display panels for graphic communication). Students will also examine, through their independent research, how leading practitioners utilise the technologies shown.
