Module summary

In this module students are encouraged to become more independent in creative practice. They will research, develop and consolidate ideas in order to arrive at a forward-thinking understanding of the relationship between materials, concepts and processes as well as the synergy between fashion and textiles. Building on level 1 learning, students will develop focused fashion design solutions, which demonstrate their increased understanding of the opportunities and challenges faced by the global fashion industry, as well as their growing familiarity and expertise in traditional and digital design methods. Students will demonstrate their creative innovation by combining their design thinking, creativity and technical knowledge to produce a range of design outcomes for future fashion markets.

Objectives

This module builds on the fashion design innovation, research, knowledge and skills developed by students at level 1. Students are encouraged to conduct individual and independent lines of research and enquiry in order that they may formulate appropriate and diverse solutions to design projects for different levels of the fashion market.

Learning outcomes
1. Demonstrate a greater individuality and independence in problem solving and critical thinking through fashion research, the design process, and its synergy with textiles;
2. Further develop innovative fashion design ideas through the use of a wide range of traditional, new or emerging technologies;
3. Demonstrate a critical understanding of fashion design within an industrial, social and cultural context through project based activity;
4. Be able to select and apply creative, technical and written skills to enhance the development and presentation of innovative fashion designs;
5. Demonstrate an increased awareness of professional practise though self-reflection and considered responses to peer and tutor feedback.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students receive one to one feedback in tutorial sessions and through regular contact with their project tutors.
Midway between projects students have the opportunity to present their work to the group and gain formative feedback through peer review feedback on their work. This is repeated near the end of each project.
At the end of semester 1 and semester 2, student receive summative feedback on each semester’s work.
