Module summary

The module aims to provide an introduction to the key tasks in management – organising, planning, controlling, directing, leading and dealing with staff. These concepts will be examined both from the classic management literature and tools and from the perspective of managers in the 21st century.Through the exploration of these subjects the module will also develop digital skills addressing areas such as academic and reflective writing, referencing and research, as well as developing professional and digital skills appropriate to working and learning environments.

Objectives

- To enable students to develop the knowledge and skills required to manage people effectively within organisations.
- To enable students to reflect upon the development of theories of management.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
- Describe the key elements of the discipline of management
- Analyse the development of management theory
- Identify and explain the issues affecting managers in the 21st century

Skills outcomes
As part of this module students will develop a range of digital literacy skills. Further details are provided in the module handbook
