Objectives

Exercise personal responsibility and work independently within defined parameters of practice, taking the initiative in a variety of situations and performing a range of clinical and care skills consistent with the roles, responsibilities and professional values of a nursing associate.

Learning outcomes
- Understand the role of the nursing associate, as part of inter-professional/multi-disciplinary teams.
- Act as a role model for the profession
- Critically reflect on how health inequalities impact on the health of the population and wider society.
- Understand and have the ability to explain issues relating to medicines management including; individual legal responsibility, personal accountability and regulatory requirements.
- Use sound numeracy skills for medicines management and sound literacy skills to record/document accurately interventions/episodes of administration of medicines, including legal responsibilities.
- Demonstrate the ability to raise health risks for discussion with individuals and offer health promotion advice.
- Use decision making and problem solving skills to deliver quality patient care
-Demonstrate the skills to communicate complex, sensitive information and stressing information in a sensitive manner.

Syllabus

- Have an understanding of a complex communication skills and the opportunity to practice these using a variety of methods to help inform practice
- Decision making and problem solving skills and the application to practice
- Develop skills regarding medicines management, including numeracy and documentation.
- Have the underpinning knowledge to offer health promotion advice to a range of patients in a range of settings.

Private study

The modules on this programme are delivered by block teaching which distributes the teaching over a number of days/weeks using a combination of Lectures, Seminars, Workshops and Tutorials.

This module aims to provide the student with the knowledge to administer medication adhering to local and national policies, professional standards and ethical practice.
The students will develop their communication skills to encompass complex and sensitive information, including personalised health promotion advice.
The students will be encouraged to complete guided study packages and blended learning and undertake relevant research to support this learning.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will have the opportunity to engage with online materials for medicine management and calculations which offer immediate feedback. Students will also be provided with bespoke mathematics tuition which is healthcare specific.
