Module summary

Operations management explores the way in which an organisation efficiently deploys resources in order to produce goods and services. The module will introduce you to real operational issues experienced by organisations and help you to develop and understanding of how these can be effectively addressed.You will engage in developing your digital skills by researching for your assignments as well as preparing for tasks before face to face sessions and through interaction with other students online.

Objectives

The aim of this module is to provide students with an appreciation of the importance of Operations Management in both manufacturing and service industries. To achieve this, this module will introduce students to the methods and theories used for conceptualising operations and enable them to evaluate operational designs, capabilities and limitations. It will also equip students with managerial, analytical and technical tools to assess and solve contemporary operations problems.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able to:
- Evaluate different operations management philosophies from a theoretical perspective
- Critically examine operations management techniques to solve practical business problems
- Analyse an organisations operations by applying theories and models of operations management

Skills outcomes
As part of this module students will develop a range of digital literacy skills. Further details are provided in the module handbook.
