Module summary
This module focuses on the management of digital business and the opportunities and challenges presented by the current digital age. Organisations and entrepreneurs are increasingly applying new digital technologies into business models, processes and practices to exploit their benefits, but with this also follows potential tensions alongside changing capabilities. In this module, we apply an interdisciplinary approach to the understanding of how digital technologies can create business value, transform existing work and explore strategies for overcoming challenges to thrive in this rapidly changing environment. Students will gain in-depth knowledge on technology-driven business transformations taught through real-life examples and the latest academic insight. Students will also develop relevant skills to navigate and use digital technologies for a range of business purposes, e.g., for strategy, marketing, innovation and business analytics.Objectives
The module explores how organisations and entrepreneurs utilise digital technologies to enhance the performance and innovation of their business. It will provide students with an overview of the evolving digital landscape, enable them to critically assess digitalisation opportunities and challenges within different types of settings, as well as how to strategically manage these. Through this understanding, students will learn skills and techniques for managing in a digital context, and the consequences this will have on future business.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

- Evaluate the importance of digital business for individuals, organisations and society
- Critically analyse the likely implications of digital business for different business sectors
- Critically evaluate barriers to the growth of digital business
- Apply knowledge of how to exploit digital business in a chosen organisation or business sector

Business model and organisational transformation
Digital and multi-sided platforms
Emerging technologies such as Social Media, Big Data, the Cloud and Internet of Things etc. Please note that these are updated on a regular basis to reflect the most recent advancements in technology.
Innovation opportunities of digital technologies
Social media and digital marketing, e.g., social media strategy and audience engagement
Critical perspectives on digital business, e.g., privacy, security and ethics
