Syllabus

The OSCE consists of 26 stations.

Sequence 1 Stations 1- 8 8 minutes per station
Stations 9-16 8 minutes per station

Sequence 2
Stations 17 - 26 8 minutes per station

Students who perform well enough on stations 1-16 will not be required to sit stations 17-26. Students who perform so poorly on stations 1-16 that they will be unable to achieve the overall pass mark will not be required to sit stations 17-26.

Students will be notified on or soon after Wednesday 17th June 2020 if they are required to sit stations 17-26.

Students who are unable to sit stations 1-16 due to illness will be required to submit evidence for mitigating circumstances and will sit a contingency examination. This will consist of stations 17-26 (morning of 25th June 2020) and an additional ten stations (stations 27-36) (afternoon of 25th June 2020). It is important to note that under these circumstances, there is no opportunity for sequential testing. Students will pass or fail as determined by their performance on the total of these stations. Students who do not attend any of the required OSCE stations and a request for mitigation is not upheld will be given a mark of 0.

The content of the OSCE stations will be divided between the five ICUs in year 4.
Stations will contain components from more than one ICU and from theme days.
Simulated patients or real patients may be used. Communication skills and other generic skills may be assessed at any station. The assessment of student performance will be carried out by trained examiners and, where appropriate, by the simulated or real patients themselves. There may be more than one assessor (e.g. trainee examiners, external examiners, senior year 4 academic assessors) present at each station.
