Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to demonstrate:
- knowledge of key issues pertaining to the fundamental principles of criminal law;
- knowledge of the most significant criminal offences in English law;
- an ability to manage their own learning, and to make use of primary resources;
- an ability to engage in critical evaluation of the law and comment on proposals for reform;
- an ability to answer hypothetical legal questions involving criminal offences.

2. Actus reus, including omissions
3. Mens rea
4. Non fatal offences against the Person, including rape
5. Parties to criminal offences
6. Homicide (murder, voluntary manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter)
7. Defences
8. Theft
