Module summary
This module further develops the opportunities for innovative textiles within fashion. Traditional and emerging digital 2D and 3D technologies are explored in the context of future fashion design and innovation. The key principles and skills gained at level 1 will underpin inquiries of textiles outcomes, where material is reimagined. Fabric construction, pattern, design aesthetics, and technology will be exploited. Students will utilise the creative tension present between materials, concepts and process to develop innovative design idea. Objectives
This module is designed for students to build on knowledge gained at level 1, and to further explore areas of innovation within textiles for fashion. Students will build upon their ability to independently identify new opportunities for design experimentation and innovation within textiles for fashion and in response develop outcomes to their findings. The module will facilitate the development of textile technical knowledge aligned to fashion.Learning outcomes
1. Demonstrate an awareness of future textiles and fashion contexts through original visual research and design analysis.
2. Accurately specify and communicate design concepts that will lead to innovation.
3. Apply creative skills using both digital and traditional technologies, to develop textile designs appropriate for fashion applications.
4. Demonstrate the ability to plan, produce and explore concepts in depth through the development of a valid design collection with technical research
Syllabus
The formal lecture content further develops knowledge of textiles aligned to fashion. The practical studio and seminar sessions will support the development of original creative thinking and demonstrate how creative ambitions are measured against an understanding of technical design constraints and opportunities. The further exploration of software and technical understanding will be delivered through practical demonstrations and access to digital fabric sampling and the broader range of the school’s contemporary technology facilities.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Student will be provided with individual formative feedback in group practical sessions. A mid semester formative session will provide the opportunity to consider their grade trajectory and identify areas for potential improvements. For example, how well has the theme been considered, how strong is the future thinking, and how is the design imagination being utilised for innovation. Methods of assessment
