Module summary
This module is elective and non-assessed, primarily designed to introduce post-graduate students to ‘Sustainability’ as a contested term, as well as providing some core knowledge surrounding its history and real-world application to apply and develop as you study your other modules at Leeds. The module will be delivered over two weeks before teaching begins in semester one and the majority of content can be worked through in your own time. There will be a live webinar at the start and at the end of the module which will talk through the activities and facilitate group discussion.Objectives
Primarily designed to introduce post-graduate students to ‘Sustainability’ as a contested term, as well as providing some core knowledge surrounding its history and real-world application to apply and develop as you study your other modules at Leeds.Learning outcomes
1. Develop skills in critical analysis to examine different arguments, perspectives and the history of sustainability.
2. Acquire knowledge and understanding on concepts and approaches used within the sustainability discipline.

The module content is structured around five topics:
1) What is sustainability?
2) The wicked problem of sustainability
3) Weak and strong sustainability
4) Sustainability and organisations
5) Wrap-up and next steps
