Module summary

The module allows students to consider foundation statistics comprising: - descriptive statistics- frequency distributions and histograms- averages and measures of dispersion- regression and correlation- ANOVA- the nature of probability and probability distributions- sampling theory, estimation and confidence intervals- hypothesis testing.

Objectives

On completion of this module students should be able to:
- appreciate the value of quantitative approach to solving a wide range of business problems;
- recognise limitations of a quantitative approach
- understand and apply basic statistical concepts within business situations
- benefit from modules of their degree programme that require possession of quantitative skills and knowledge.

Foundation statistics comprising:
- descriptive statistics
- frequency distributions and histograms
- averages and measures of dispersion
- regression and correlation
- ANOVA
- the nature of probability and probability distributions
- sampling theory, estimation and confidence intervals
- hypothesis testing.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be given a mid-term test which will cover the part of the stats material taken up to that time in the module. Feedback on this test will be given in the form of answers.
