Module summary

To ensure that students have a sound understanding of the key issues affecting the planning, management and financing of public transport in developed and developing countries.


This module aims to develop students with a sound understanding of the key issues in the planning and management of public transport systems. It also provides practical problem-solving experience focusing on understanding, evaluating, applying and communicating the underlying operating and economic principles of public transport planning. The module will focus on UK and international-based urban transport and rail case study evidence.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will have demonstrated the following learning outcomes relevant to the subject:

1. develop an understanding of the key issues affecting the demand, cost, planning and management of public transport-
2. demonstrate practical public transport economic and operational modeling skills to develop solutions to various real-world problems- 3. examine multi-dimensional role of public transport within a mixed-mode transport planning system
