Programme specification:
At the end of the programme students should:
1. Understand the basic principles of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation Engineering. It includes machinery and manufacture, the efficient use of mechanisms without excessive vibrations and stresses, energy utilization with minimal pollution of the environment and transport.
2. Understand and apply with critical, analytical and practical skills, the core subject areas of solid mechanics, thermofluids, materials, design, manufacture and computing, together with supporting subjects in mathematics and electronics.
3. Specialise in the final year by selecting from a range of subjects that are led by active researchers in the field in both Leeds and SWJTU, ensuring state of the art knowledge.
4. Understand issues of engineering business matters such as: finance, law, marketing, cost, risk and management.
5. Understand the responsibilities of an engineer to society and to deal with issues such as the environment and health and safety.
6. Be exposed to industrial seminars and visits.
7. Develop independent study, practical, team working and communication skills.
8. Be prepared for employment within a wide range of engineering disciplines, or to study for a postgraduate degree in engineering. and to obtain accreditation as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
9. Be proficient in the English language in order to be able to work internationally as Mechanical Engineers.
The programme will:
The Program focuses on the development of the students engineering skills, innovative capabilities, and applications of computer technologies and English language literacy, and integrate mechanical engineering technologies with electronic information ones in instruction. Students upon completion of the studies will serve as engineers in mechanical engineering fields covering the design and manufacture of heavy lifting, engineering, and manufacture machinery and equipment etc.
