BEng Materials Science and Engineering (For students entering from September 2024 onwards)

The programme will deliver a unique, multidisciplinary perspective on the teaching of Materials Science and Engineering. Materials Science is acknowledged as a multi-disciplinary subject, with clear links across engineering, chemistry and physics. The Leeds Materials Science and Engineering undergraduate programme is the only example from a research intensive university that is co-taught across the Schools of Chemical and Process engineering, Chemistry and Physics at all levels of the programme. The programme is centred around the University’s £100M Bragg Centre for Materials Research, where a unique and diverse range of world-class, cutting edge materials research, spanning the traditional disciplines of Engineering, Chemistry and Physics, have been brought together to tackle real world challenges.
The programme is designed to equip graduates with fundamental understanding and a range of advanced skills in materials science and engineering, thereby enabling excellent career prospects in the materials or metallurgical production industries, as well as those many industries where correct selection, specification and processing of materials is a key to success. Students will have the opportunity to spend a year in industry as a formal part of their course, with such placements occurring between years 2 and 3 of the BEng degree programme.
