Programme specification:
The programme will offer international and comparative perspectives on intellectual property law and policy. It will examine the evolving impact of intellectual property on the international stage, especially in respect of trade, economics, politics, development and culture. As such, it is by necessity interdisciplinary. However, interdisciplinarity will not be at the expense of legal rigour as is appropriate and to be expected from a programme offered by a university law school.
PROGRAMME AIMS:
- Demonstrate in-depth specialist knowledge of the key principles, rationales and functions of intellectual property law and their shifting nature
- Exhibit competence in articulating this knowledge
- Comprehend the international architecture of the international intellectual property regime
- Understand how intellectual property law is made at the international level and the political and diplomatic challenges faced by governments and stakeholders
- Exhibit competence in the exercise of subject-specific and more general intellectual abilities
- Evaluate current issues, controversies and research in the discipline
- Formulate evidence-based points of view concerning complex issues in IP law and policy and defend these views
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of techniques applicable to their own research, advanced scholarship or area of specific interest within the broader discipline.
