Programme specification:
The programme will: give you an in-depth and practical understanding of the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). We equip you with the skills needed to explain and describe language and you will consider the practicalities of teaching, so you can develop effective lesson planning and classroom management techniques. The programme is organised around four key themes: language description, language teaching, language learning, and an experiential theme. In the first year you will take a foreign language or study academic English. You will gain first-hand experience in a language classroom whilst supporting English language teachers, and will study core modules related to the overarching themes. In years two and three you will enhance your knowledge of each of these themes, whilst also building on your classroom experience in new learning contexts. Research is an integral part of this programme; we will show you how to conduct research in TESOL so you can continue to develop your skills when you enter the workplace or undertake further study. In your final year you will carry out an independent research project.
The course builds on the Language Education Group's international reputation for teaching and research excellence in TESOL. Our academic experts have run an extensive range of language education programmes for many years. The BA TESOL will give you the skills, knowledge and practical awareness for a variety of careers in English language teaching, primary teaching, industry, commerce, media, or research where an understanding of the language learning and teaching process is valuable.
