Entry requirements:

Normally three subjects at advanced level, grades ABB, normally including Music (Double Music A Levels are not normally regarded as two subjects). Other appropriate examinations and experience (for example Associated Board Grade 8) may be taken into consideration.

At the end of the programme students should have:
Subject specific:
- undertaken an independent dissertation of a focused musicological study, with individual supervision, and produce an advanced piece of writing;
- applied advanced historical, analytical, critical and comparative methodologies to the articulation and development of arguments including recent developments in scholarship;
- demonstrated an awareness of the ambiguity and limitations of source material;
- demonstrated an increased self-reliance in a variety of chosen musical disciplines leading to professional competency;
- demonstrated a high level of oral presentation skills applicable to a focused repertoire range;
- demonstrated high-level analytical skills applicable to a range of repertoires.

Generic:
- developed a capacity for independent learning;
- high levels of self-expression and communication (in written and other forms);
- expertise in the use of new technology;
- competence in social organisation.

Specifically, on completion of their study abroad year, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- follow a programme of study for an academic year at an agreed exchange destination outside the UK;
- show developing ability and experience in reflective practice, in support of personal/academic development (normally in an on-line format) in accordance with School guidelines.

For Study Abroad Students
If you register for Study Year Abroad, you will select MUSS9001 Year Abroad and you will be expected to select mostly Music courses at a non-UK University.

OR

For Horizon Year Abroad Students
If you register for Horizon Year Abroad, you will take LEED9000 Horizon Year Abroad (100 credits) and you will also be required to register for MODL3150 Intercultural Communication and Global Citizenship: A Critical Approach for the Horizon Year Abroad (20 credits). Both of these modules must be passed.
