Programme specification:
The programme is designed for those interested in the teaching of English as a foreign language to children aged between 5 and 12 years. It aims to provide professionals in this fast-growing field of TESOL with the knowledge and skills needed to reflect on and develop practice.
The first part of the programme offers a grounding in how languages are learned, analysis of English language and TESOL methodology.
Students then study a specialised module which links understandings developed in the previous modules to young learners. A range of classroom activities, teaching/learning materials, and curricula for the young learner classroom are analysed and evaluated. Through their reading and engagement in practical activities students will develop understanding and skills to develop TESOL practice in young learner classrooms.
The third part of the programme - the critical study - offers Masters students an opportunity to investigate an aspect of teaching and learning in young learner classrooms in depth.
