The field of Education sits in an ever-changing context. This dynamic programme will prepare you to contribute to and participate in education of the future through studying three connected themes across the programme: educational issues; educational practice and educational research. You will explore the various settings, both formal and informal, in which learning takes place and understand the processes underpinning learning. You will explore the ways in which education is conceptualised and conducted in different social and political contexts and examine how government policies impact on practice. You will understand how schools and classrooms work and will have opportunities to learn about how different core curriculum subjects are learned and taught. In the third year you will have the opportunity to undertake a placement in a school or other establishment where education takes place which will enable you to understand the relationship between theory and practice, and to apply the knowledge that you gained in the modules that you have studied. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own experience as a learner and on your experience in education workplaces.

You will consider how research informs education practice, learn a variety of methods for educational research and will conduct your own small-scale research project. You will have opportunities to study abroad or to spend a year working in an appropriate professional setting and to reflect on those experiences. Throughout the programme you will be taught by experts in the field of education who are experienced educators and will have opportunities to consider and prepare for a range of careers in education in the UK or internationally. You will also have opportunities to progress to further study for a professional or academic qualification in the field of education.
