Programme specification:
The School of Dentistry has an international reputation in the specialist areas of postgraduate study and attracts numerous high quality applicants, home and overseas, for its postgraduate taught and research programmes in Paediatric Dentistry, including large numbers of non-publicly funded overseas students.
Increasingly clinical researchers need to have training that will enable them to carry out research that is embedded in clinical practice, and a good grounding in some basic sciences also facilitates increased insight into clinical problems. This Programme will produce graduates with a mix of skills tailored to their professional and research aspirations. The modules are designed to enhance and deepen professional and academic knowledge and understanding of issues specific to practice and research in Paediatric Dentistry. The mix of modules available will allow clinically qualified candidates to specialise in their chosen subject area while maintaining a breadth of research training taken alongside students studying in other specialties.
The programmes benefit significantly from the establishment of the DenTCRU, which will provide a dedicated environment in which to deliver the PG teaching and patient-focussed research. Research opportunities are further enhanced by the establishment of the Leeds Skeletal Tissue Bank (the first Tissue Bank established in a UK Dental School), facilitating their access to human tissues and materials that are essential for cutting edge research.
