A bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons) in a related engineering discipline. Successful applicants will have previous studies covering advanced mathematics, fluid mechanics, strength of materials and dynamics.

Programme specification:

The programme will provide graduates with a broad range and depth of knowledge in automotive engineering and develop skills in engineering analysis, design, manufacture and management applied to the automotive engineering industry.

The programme is designed to be individually tailored by the student to suit their particular needs and interests, by selecting modules from a range of options. It is aimed at graduate engineers who wish to pursue a career in industry using advanced engineering techniques. The programme also aims to provide in depth knowledge in specific subject areas to those graduates who are considering a research career in either industry or academia.

On completion of the course a graduate should be able to:

- demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge and understanding in his/her chosen automotive engineering subject areas;
- integrate and apply their skills to the solution of a real engineering problem involving some combination of computational, experimental and theoretical techniques in a selected area of automotive engineering;
- demonstrate ability to deal with complex and contradictory knowledge, critically analyse complex problems and be able to develop new approaches to problem solving;
- critically and independently review and evaluate their own work and that of others;

- demonstrate both confidence and effectiveness in:
> communication and its support through appropriate IT facilities;
> the setting of objectives and the planning and management of time and resources;
> management and team working skills;
- approach professional problems and challenges with initiative, responsiveness, decisiveness and confidence.
