Programme specification:

To give students from a wide variety of backgrounds a firm grounding in the principles, techniques, issues and practice of transport planning and engineering.

By the end of the programme, students will also have acquired a wide range of generic research skills in experimental and analytical techniques, communication, team working and problem solving. Students will be well equipped for a professional career or research career in issues relating to transport planning and engineering in government, consultancy and research.

Distinctiveness of programme

This programme is designed to:
- give students from a wide variety of backgrounds a firm grounding in the principles, techniques, issues and practice of transport planning and engineering
- equip students with the knowledge and skills required to understand and propose solutions to promote effective solutions to engineering related transport problems which fit within the broader aims of transport and planning policy.

Graduates will be equipped with core technical knowledge in data collection, transport modelling, planning methods and engineering design. Further specialisation in engineering principles and traffic modelling will enable students to demonstrate a set of skills focussed on the engineering and modelling aspects of transport planning.

Students will be capable of developing a range of practical solutions, by applying engineering design techniques and modelling principles to a range of transport problems.
