Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- demonstrate a developing engagement with the production of, and challenges to, the narratives of the history of art in order to understand the production and reception of art within a variety of social and cultural contexts;
- demonstrate the understanding of the interconnectedness and complexities inherent within a variety of art historical methodologies;
- deliver written work that demonstrates an ability to work clearly and competently with a range of ideas and concepts introduced by the study of philosophical frameworks for understanding art (aesthetics);
- consider and evaluate their own work in a reflexive manner, with reference to academic debates and conventions;
- utilise a range of research skills in order to think about their own learning in a wider context of already existing ideas on art and its histories;
- manage time, personnel and resources effectively, by drawing on planning and organisational skills;
- work productively in seminar groups, showing abilities at different times to listen and contribute effectively.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;
- decision making.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects/competencies of the discipline/profession to complex, albeit standard, situations and simple, albeit novel or atypical, instances;
- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;
- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to the discipline;
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
