Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of:- being able to function in spoken and written Arabic and Russian as to sustain everyday communication in a variety of contexts;- being able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic structures of the Arabic and Russian languages;- being able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding, at an introductory level, of one or more aspects of the literatures, cultures, linguistic contexts, history, politics and social structures of the society of Arabic-speaking and Russian-speaking cultures;- EITHER having studied a third language OR deepening their knowledge of an academic discipline relevant to both Arabic and Russian- being able to present a structured and coherent argument observing academic conventions- being familiar with the concept of academic integrity, and an ability to acknowledge sources in accordance with University of Leeds guidelines;- being able to demonstrate simple receptive and productive language skills in a variety of contexts in both Arabic and Russian;- being able to present a structured and coherent simple argument in both Arabic and Russian.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for year one of the programme:- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment , e.g. be able to gather and process information from a variety of paper, audio-visual and electronic sources, in English, Arabic and Russian , be able to use IT effectively both as a means of communication and as an aid to learning;- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and independent learning, including the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;- foundational intercultural awareness and skills.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the area of study;- work that covers a restricted area of the discipline;- demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies.
