Learning outcomes
On completion of Level 1, you will be able to:1. recognise and apply the basic concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques which are standard features of the study of Classical Civilisation.2. discuss particular aspects of ancient Greek history and culture from the 8th to the 4th centuries BC and of Roman history and culture from 133BC to 138AD.3. explain and interpret examples of Greek epic and tragedy, and examples of Latin literature of the Republican and imperial periods.4. interpret and evaluate the underlying concepts and principles of the study of antiquity.Skills Learning OutcomesOn completion of Level 1, you will be able to:1. communicate the results of your work by presenting structured and coherent simple arguments.2. identify disciplinary scope and boundaries, and appraise your strengths and weaknesses as a learner.3. evaluate qualitative and/or quantitative data, developing analytical skills.4. assess the appropriateness of different approaches to problem solving associated with the discipline.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme. These may include essays, presentations, commentaries, creative writing assignments and exams.
