BA Digital Media

Learning outcomes

Students will be able to:
• Explain the historical development of digital media and recognise the different ways in which media and communication can be understood in relation to technological and social change.
• Engage with a range of relevant digital media practices to a professional standard for different content, audiences, and delivery mechanisms, for example, graphic and web design.
• Reflect critically on practical work in digital media to explain decisions, processes, and outcomes.
• Evaluate and critically engage with a range of (digital) media forms and scholarship.
• Communicate digital media concepts, analysis, and practical outcomes in a range of different ways, for example, orally and in written form.

Skills Learning Outcomes
• Research Skills: The ability to locate, engage with, critically analyse and evaluate key texts and ideas in digital media.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in a range of digital practices, for example, computational skills, data analysis, graphic design, web development, and experience in utilising a range of digital media applications and technologies.
• Communication Skills: The ability to adapt communication style and medium for different audiences, including essay writing, and reflective work.

Assessment

Core modules at Level 1 on the BA Digital Media are assessed through portfolios, literature reviews, essays, reflective logs, reports, website design and a short multi-choice exam. Optional modules encompass a wide variety of assessments including film clip analysis, audio-visual outputs and essays.
