Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:

1. Demonstrate developing understanding of advanced New Media production techniques
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the aesthetic and formal qualities of visual communication systems and their relation to meanings, in particular cultural forms
3. Demonstrate developing independence in research including the ability to devise and execute small research projects, select appropriate research methodologies and resources, critique research findings and adhere to the principles of research ethics

4. Utilise research as a production tool for example research into potential audiences, markets or consumption contexts, and recognise formal new media project management approaches
5. Demonstrate understanding of the contexts and processes by which professional media is produced. Students can apply this knowledge to make informed contributions to debates about media texts and industries and to make policy recommendations

6. Students can work independently and as a member of a team and can present their ideas in a range of styles for different audiences (M&C 7)
7. Consider and evaluate their own work in a reflexive manner

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
- team working skills
- project and time management skills
- decision making;

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects/competencies of the discipline/profession to complex, albeit standard, situations and simple, albeit novel or atypical, instances;
- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;
- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to the discipline;
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
