Learning outcomes
On completion of Level Two, students should have provided evidence of being able to: - - demonstrate familiarity with the main concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques which are standard features of English studies; - present a structured and coherent argument - have sound knowledge of critical terminology - have experience of English literature from a range of literary periods and locations, including literature before 1800; - have a critical understanding of the importance of the literary, cultural and socio-historical contexts in which literature is written and read, including literature before 1800; - have a sound knowledge of the varieties of language and forms; - develop and deploy judiciously a range of critical skills; - - develop and deploy judiciously a range of analytical skills; - demonstrate a sound critical knowledge of the social, political cultural contexts of the English language as a medium for literature; - demonstrate a command of English syntax, grammar and style via engagement with literary materials; - demonstrate a critical knowledge of up to two particular and specific literary fields, facilitated either through the choice and pursuit of research-led option modules or via the planning of a dissertation.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire key transferable skills as defined in the modules specified for the programme: - qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied; - skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility; - decision making.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include: - demonstrating the knowledge and application of concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline; - demonstrating the ability to construct an argument; - demonstrating knowledge of English Literature; - demonstrating the ability to be critical of scholarly work.
