Learning outcomes
On successful completion of Level 3, students should be able to:1. Demonstrate a critical and sophisticated knowledge of the literary, cultural and socio-historical contexts in which literature is written; 2. Articulate a critical knowledge of up to four particular and specific literary fields, facilitated through the choice and pursuit of specialist research modules and through the planning and production of a Final Year Project; 3. Produce a structured and coherent argument demonstrating sophisticated knowledge of critical terminology. Skills Learning OutcomesOn successful completion of Level 3, students should be able to:1. Work independently and on their own initiative to devise a project, generate imaginative and original ideas, and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines; 2. Demonstrate an advanced ability to conduct independent research, using supporting evidence to challenge or nuance their own ideas;3. Communicate advanced critical thinking skills through constructing a structured and coherent argument sustained over 8,000 words and referencing a wide range of appropriately selected evidence.
Assessment
The Subject Specific and Skills Learning outcomes can be met through the core module, the Final Year Project, an extended 40-credit module spanning two semesters and requiring sustained skills of research, project management, critical thinking and advanced writing. Assessments on the specialist research modules vary according to the options chosen, but support the Final Year Project core through developing skills of independent research, critical thinking and sustained analysis.
