Learning outcomes

By the end of Year 1, you will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principal constructions of the grammar and the key vocabulary of French (to a B2 Level of the CEFR for the students on Route A and to a A2 Level for the students 0n Route B).
2. Communicate in French to sustain basic everyday conversation.
3. Recognise and describe social conventions prevalent in the culture where French is spoken.
4. Demonstrate an appreciation of key aspects of the culture, history, literature and society of countries where French is spoken that will inform specialization at later levels.
5. Contextualize extracts of texts (historical, cultural, literary) and provide an in-depth analysis of both the content and the expressive form.

Skills Learning Outcomes

By the end of Year 1, you will be able to:
1. Read for academic purposes and summarize complex ideas.
2. Present a short coherent argument in an appropriate written or oral style.
3. Identify, analyse and evaluate arguments in scholarly sources and develop your own position in response.
4. Demonstrate integrity in use of material and ability to make reference to sources following conventions appropriate to the discipline.
5. Use electronic and library-based resources to develop digital proficiency and productivity.
6. Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and practise problem-solving.
7. Appraise your strengths and weaknesses as a learner.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme. These may include essays, commentaries, portfolio, individual and group presentations, creative writing or oral assignments, and exams.
