Learning outcomes
On completion of the initial year of the Bachelor Degree with Integrated International Foundation Year (Business) you should have provided evidence of being able to:1. demonstrate an understanding of Business as an academic discipline;2. understand basic business organisations and their objectives;3. have an awareness of business decision-making;4. demonstrate knowledge of some of the key concepts and techniques in Business and be able to apply some of these;5. demonstrate a foundation level understanding of the different environments and cultural settings in which business operates and how these should be taken into consideration when planning and undertaking business activities;6. appreciate the basics of business finance;7. demonstrate an awareness of the different functional areas of management within business operations such as Human Resource Management, Accounting, Finance and Marketing;8. understand key terminology describing business structures;9. demonstrate a foundation level of the value of diversity and how organisations manage diversity;10. demonstrate an understanding of some of the key financial and business stories reported in the press over the duration of their studies and discuss these with reference to the theory taught within the programme.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the initial year of the Bachelor Degree with Integrated International Foundation year (Business) programme:- Qualities and transferable skills necessary for further study in the Business area to which they are intending to progress, including knowing how to:> read the Business press and undertake Business case studies;> access the University library and computing facilities;> work co-operatively as part of a team.- Skills necessary for the collection and communication of relevant Business information.- Skills necessary for time management, collecting and evaluating information, effective reading, note taking, essay writing and preparing for examinations.- Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and the management of own learning.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the initial year of the Bachelor Degree with Integrated International Foundation Year (Business) programme and will include:- demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the Business discipline;- work that covers selected areas of Business chosen from Accounting and Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management and Marketing;- demonstrating an understanding of developments and trends in Business and showing the skills required to identify and explore these to the benefit of the particular business discipline to which they apply.
