Learning outcomes

By the end of Year 1, you will be able to:
1. Identify and use the principal constructions of the grammar and the key vocabulary of Italian (to a B1 Level of the CEFR for the students in Route A and to a A2+ Level for the students in Route B)
2. Communicate in Italian to sustain basic everyday conversation
3. Recognise and describe social conventions prevalent in Italian culture
4. Discuss basic aspects of Italian culture and society that will inform specialization at later levels
5. Appraise key aspects of the art, film, and literature as well as of social and historical issues pertaining to Italian culture
6. Contextualize extracts of texts (film, literature, and media) and provide an analysis of both the content and the expressive form.

Skills Learning Outcomes
By the end of Year 1, you will be able to:
1. Read for academic purposes and summarize complex ideas
2. Present a short coherent argument in appropriate written and oral styles
3. Identify, analyse and evaluate arguments in scholarly sources and develop your own position in response
4. Demonstrate integrity in use of material and make reference to sources following conventions appropriate to the discipline
5. Use electronic and library-based resources to investigate familiar and unfamiliar language data
6. Appraise your strengths and weaknesses as a learner

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme. These may include essays, commentaries, portfolio, individual and group presentations, creative writing or oral assignments, and exams.
