Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- Communicate effectively with native speakers of the Thai language in a variety of contexts;- Demonstrate an intimate familiarity with the Thai social, cultural, political and developmental contexts;- Demonstrate an inquisitive and critical understanding of contemporary issues in Thailand;- Undertake research on an issue, problem or process in contemporary Thailand, using secondary Thai language sources and primary investigation using the Thai language;- Read Thai language newspapers;- Follow and comprehend disciplinary courses presented in the Thai language;- Act and interact effectively and appropriately in the Thai socio-cultural context;- Manage their affairs and organise their time whilst living abroad.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- The ability to organise their lives and function effectively whilst living abroad;- The ability to immerse themselves in an alien socio-cultural context;- Skills of secondary and primary research investigation, and the writing of an undergraduate project;- The ability to recognise and act appropriately within an alien socio-cultural context.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- Continuous assessment in language and disciplinary modules by the host institution in Thailand;- Assessment of a research report undertaken during the course of the year abroad in Thailand;- Submission of a satisfactory log-book kept during the course of the year abroad.
