BA Religion, Politics and Society

Learning outcomes

By the end of level two students will demonstrate a good knowledge and critical understanding of the concepts, information, theories and methods which are standard features in the study of Religion, Politics and Society.
Students will demonstrate an ability to employ the main methods of enquiry in the study of Religion, Politics and Society, and critically evaluate the appropriateness of different methods of enquiry. This will include demonstrating an ability to use a range of techniques to initiate and undertake the analysis of data and information.
Students will demonstrate a critical engagement with a range of recent and classical research and scholarship, and a developing ability to engage with this scholarship critically.
Students will demonstrate an ability to effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms, including accurate referencing and clarity of expression;
Students will demonstrate preparedness for cross-disciplinary independent study.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to evidence and develop:
- analytical and critical thinking;
- the communication of information, ideas, problems and solutions in a variety of ways to a variety of audiences;
- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment in a plural society with a developed subject specialist knowledge of religion, politics and society;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility.

Assessment

Achievement of the programme learning outcomes, and evidence of transferable skills, will be assessed by a variety of methods through the modules specified for the level and may include essays, reports, exams, group work, presentations, reflective writing. Assessment will focus on providing opportunities for students to evidence their higher level skills and demonstrate their growing independence of thought and critical ability.
Assessment will be designed in order to assess programme level, as well as module level, learning.
