Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- define the underlying basic concepts, theories and principles in key disciplines in social science, including sociology, social policy, politics and criminal justice studies;- examine, contrast and use the basic concepts, theories and principles in social science in relation to current social, economic, cultural and political issues;- interpret qualitative and quantitative data, develop lines of argument and make reasoned judgements in accordance with the basic theories and concepts of social science;- employ a range of responses to problem solving;- communicate the results of their study accurately with structured and reasoned arguments;- undertake further training and develop new skills within a structured and managed learning environment.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- the qualities and transferable skills necessary to undertake further study at undergraduate degree level in the subject area(s) studied;- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline;- work that covers a specified area(s) of the discipline;- demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies.
