Year 2

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- communicate effectively with native speakers of the Thai language in a variety of contexts;
- demonstrate a familiarity with the Thai social, cultural, political and developmental contexts;
- demonstrate an inquisitive and critical understanding of contemporary issues in Thailand;
- undertake research on an issue, problem or process in contemporary Thailand, using a significant proportion of secondary Thai language sources and primary investigation using the Thai language;
- read Thai language newspapers;
- follow and comprehend disciplinary courses presented in the Thai language;
- act and interact effectively and appropriately in the Thai socio-cultural context;
- manage their affairs and organise their time whilst living abroad.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- the ability to organise their lives and function effectively whilst living abroad;
- the ability to immerse themselves in an alien socio-cultural context;
- skills of secondary and primary research investigation, and the writing of an undergraduate project;
- the ability to recognise and act appropriately within an alien socio-cultural context.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- continuous assessment in language and disciplinary modules by the host institution in Thailand;
- assessment of a research report undertaken during the course of the year abroad in Thailand;
- submission of a satisfactory log-book kept during the course of the year abroad.
