Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- communicate effectively with native speakers of the Thai language in a variety of contexts;- demonstrate a familiarity with the Thai social, cultural, political and developmental contexts;- demonstrate an inquisitive and critical understanding of contemporary issues in Thailand;- undertake research on an issue, problem or process in contemporary Thailand, using a significant proportion of secondary Thai language sources and primary investigation using the Thai language;- read Thai language newspapers;- follow and comprehend disciplinary courses presented in the Thai language;- act and interact effectively and appropriately in the Thai socio-cultural context;- manage their affairs and organise their time whilst living abroad.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- the ability to organise their lives and function effectively whilst living abroad;- the ability to immerse themselves in an alien socio-cultural context;- skills of secondary and primary research investigation, and the writing of an undergraduate project;- the ability to recognise and act appropriately within an alien socio-cultural context.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- continuous assessment in language and disciplinary modules by the host institution in Thailand;- assessment of a research report undertaken during the course of the year abroad in Thailand;- submission of a satisfactory log-book kept during the course of the year abroad.
