Learning outcomes

On completion of Level 1, you will be able to:
1. describe basic features of Ancient Greek and Roman history and reflect on the range of primary evidence available to study them, recognising the complexity and diversity of ancient societies and cultures.
2. interpret and evaluate the underlying concepts and principles of the study of Ancient Greek and Roman history, demonstrating a basic awareness of the nature of history as an academic discipline, and assess the appropriateness of some of the different approaches to history.
3. recognise the importance of the literary, cultural and socio-historical contexts in which historical documents are written and read.

Skills Learning Outcomes

On completion of Level 1, you will be able to:
1. communicate the results of your work by presenting structured and coherent simple arguments.
2. evaluate qualitative and/or quantitative data, developing analytical skills.
3. apply techniques of historical enquiry to analyse evidence such as texts, inscriptions, coins, material culture or other source materials.
4. identify professional and disciplinary boundaries, and appraise your strengths and weaknesses as learners through individual and group work

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme. These may include essays, presentations, commentaries, creative writing assignments and exams.
