Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this level, students will be able to:• Explain a range of historical, critical and theoretical approaches to the analysis of visual and audio-visual media texts.• Identify and organise professional elements of media production, showing knowledge of a variety of the standard production roles and commercial frameworks within the creative media industries.• Construct solutions to creative problems using appropriate media production methods, such as scripts, storyboards, photographs, short videos or other media• Analyse media texts and critically evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to academic research in film, photography and media Skills Learning Outcomes• Collaboration and teamwork skills: The ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a creative film or documentary production team, in a professional manner• Production and technical skills: The ability to produce audio-visual material, using industry standard equipment, to construct appropriate outcomes to a brief under professional time constraints• Critical thinking skills: The ability to critique and analyse media texts according to theoretical frameworks.
Assessment
Assessment is aligned to the learning outcomes of each module, so students will be assessed through a variety of methods dependent on the module and the level of the programme. At level 2, these may include film clip analyses, essays, the production of a five minute film, scripts, pitches and group presentations.
