Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this level, students will be able to:
• Explain a range of historical, critical and theoretical approaches to the analysis of visual and audio-visual media texts.
• Identify and organise professional elements of media production, showing knowledge of a variety of the standard production roles and commercial frameworks within the creative media industries.
• Construct solutions to creative problems using appropriate media production methods, such as scripts, storyboards, photographs, short videos or other media
• Analyse media texts and critically evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to academic research in film, photography and media

Skills Learning Outcomes
• Collaboration and teamwork skills: The ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a creative film or documentary production team, in a professional manner
• Production and technical skills: The ability to produce audio-visual material, using industry standard equipment, to construct appropriate outcomes to a brief under professional time constraints
• Critical thinking skills: The ability to critique and analyse media texts according to theoretical frameworks.

Assessment

Assessment is aligned to the learning outcomes of each module, so students will be assessed through a variety of methods dependent on the module and the level of the programme. At level 2, these may include film clip analyses, essays, the production of a five minute film, scripts, pitches and group presentations.
