Learning outcomes
1. Evaluate insightfully how individuals and groups have existed, acted, and thought in a range of societies and cultures across a broad chronological and geographical span; 2. Assess the range, value, and challenges of the primary source material available for historical study and apply selected concepts or theories to the analysis of sources; 3. Analyse at an introductory level the key issues relating to broad field of English literary studies, including the genres of poetry, fiction, and drama from a range of literary periods and locations, and the literary, cultural, and socio-historical contexts in which literature is written and read; 4. Read analytically and write critically, using textual evidence to support an argument. Skills Learning Outcomes1. Communicate critical thinking skills through presenting a structured and coherent simple argument; 2. Know when, why and how to appropriately acknowledge someone else’s work and ideas.3. Apply effective approaches to communicate with different audiences;4. Develop positive working relationships with team members in group work.
Assessment
BA English and History uses a combination of different assessment methods to capture the range of ways that students learn on the programme. At Level 1 assessment types across our compulsory and optional modules typically include: podcasts, portfolios, presentations, wikis, as well as academic essays, primary source essays, reflective logs and essays, and online exams.
