Learning outcomes
On successful completion of Level 1, students should be able to: 1. Demonstrate basic understanding of the broad field of English literary studies, including the genres of poetry, fiction, and drama from a range of literary periods and locations; 2. Show awareness of the importance of the literary, cultural, and socio-historical contexts in which literature is written and read; 3. Read analytically and write critically, using textual evidence to support an argument. 4. Show awareness of the nexus among information, data and media literacies. 5. Incorporate the basics of digital learning and development into own learning. 6.Recognise opportunities to work complementarily with others in a genuinely connected and collective way. Skills Learning OutcomesOn successful completion of Level 1, students should be able to: 1. Evaluate different arguments and perspectives through the use of supporting evidence and appropriate sources; 2. Communicate critical thinking skills through presenting a structured and coherent simple argument; 3. Incorporate the basics of digital learning and development into own learning 4. Recognise opportunities to work complementarily with others in a genuinely connected and collective way 5. Know when, why and how to appropriately acknowledge someone else’s work and ideas.
Assessment
The Subject Specific and Skills Learning outcomes can be met through the four core modules, regardless of optionality. Forms of assessment differs across modules, but typically include a coursework essay. The core modules embed a variety of alternative forms of assessments, including reflective logs, portfolios and group presentations, preparing students for diverse modes of assessment later in the programme.
