Learning outcomes

1. Evaluate insightfully how individuals and groups have existed, acted, and thought in a range of societies and cultures across a broad chronological and geographical span;
2. Critically analyse different interpretations of the past and appreciate the value and diversity of historical works;
3. Assess the range, value, and challenges of the primary source material available for historical study and apply selected concepts or theories to the analysis of sources;
4. Apply disciplinary norms in referencing, and critical insight on when, why, and how to acknowledge someone else’s work and ideas appropriately.

Skills Learning Outcomes
1. Apply effective approaches to communicate with different audiences;
2. Develop positive working relationships with team members in group work;
3. Analyse historical interpretations and perspectives, using appropriate and relevant supportive evidence to form opinions, arguments, and ideas;
4. Reflect on personal achievements and how they relate to individual experience and development;
5. Critically interrogate historical norms and practices and reflect on personal values, perceptions, and actions.

Assessment

The School of History uses a combination of different assessment methods to capture the range of ways that students learn on the programme. At Level 1 assessment types across our compulsory and optional modules typically include: podcasts, presentations, wikis, as well as academic essays, primary source essays, reflective essays, and online exams.
