Learning outcomes

At the end of L2 you will be able to:

1. Demonstrate a broad understanding of concepts of International Development, as well as the practical competencies and techniques which are standard features in International Development. In addition, you will take direction and will begin to specialise in International Development through module choice.
2. Demonstrate awareness of some of a range of debates within the study of International Development.
3. Demonstrate and appreciation of the constraints and opportunities faced by various development actors, such as NGOs, the state and community led organisations.
4. Appreciate and critically evaluate the appropriateness of different theoretical approaches used to understand the processes and dynamics of international development.
5. Critically appraise a range of research techniques used by different development actors to produce and assess data and information.
6. Be able to make arguments and evaluations of the main debates within the study of International Development.

Skills Learning Outcomes

At the end of L2 you will be able to:

1. Retrieve, organise, and produce complex summaries of information and/or data, and to generate new data.
2. Assemble complex arguments and assessments and be able to evaluate and criticise the arguments of others.
3. Work with others in a collaborative way and understand the challenges such collaboration.
4. Have a developed understanding of digital technologies and be able to use them to retrieve data and information and to communicate this information to others.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include: (1) demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard themes, concepts, and theories relating to International Development; and (2) demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies in a variety formats. These formats may include: essays, reports, learning logs, blogs, literature reviews, presentations, poster-presentations, and podcasts. Assessment will be both formative and summative, and will be supported with feedback.
