Learning outcomes

On successful completion of Level 3, you will:
1. Make flexible and creative use of the concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques which are standard features of the discipline represented in the major,
2. Synthesize a breadth of knowledge to assess the consequences and impact of ideas across disciplines;
3. Expertly use generic and subject specific intellectual qualities to be able to present a structured and coherent argument and to assess different types of data;
4. Generate ideas, demonstrate originality and imaginative interdisciplinary thinking.
5. Reflect with enhanced critical depth upon the challenges and opportunities of inter-disciplinary enquiry through combining the perspectives of different disciplines to bring a central question into clear focus.

Skills Learning Outcomes
1. Expertly communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;
2. Search for and gather information from a range of sources, analyse and interpret data to aid understanding and answer key focal questions.
3. Set and achieve goals, and seek/accept feedback, directing and monitoring work within and beyond taught sessions.
4. Think critically across disciplines and analyse and present nuanced arguments, beyond expected or accepted ideas.
5. Undertake an extended piece of independent research, drawing on interdisciplinary themes, theories, and/or methods.

Assessment

The Subject Specific and Skills Learning outcomes can be met through the Liberal Arts core modules and the major and topic modules, regardless of the optionality. The forms of assessment for Liberal Arts will differ across modules and will depend on which modules are selected by the student, but typically include a coursework essay.
The Final Year Project, which all Liberal Arts students will take, allows students to work with a subject-specific supervisor to complete a project of their own devising, and this will help meet all Learning Outcomes, particularly in relation to interdisciplinarity, where all projects are marked against both a discipline-specific and an Interdisciplinarity Marking Criteria.
There will be a range of unassessed formative exercises, allowing students to make progress with the LOs and skills outside an assessment context. Opportunities for explicit discussion and support will be made available by module leaders in office hours and in routine meetings with academic personal tutors
