Learning outcomes

1. Apply basic knowledge of mathematics, statistics, natural science and engineering principles to the solution of well-defined engineering problems.
2. Analyse well-defined engineering problems to reach substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, statistics, natural science and engineering principles.
3. Apply appropriate computational and analytical techniques to model well-defined engineering problems.
4. Select and evaluate technical literature and other sources of information to address well-defined engineering problems.
5. Design solutions for well-defined engineering problems.
6. Apply an integrated or systems approach to the solution of well-defined engineering problems.
7. Recognise the environmental and societal impact of solutions to well-defined engineering problems.
8. Identify and analyse ethical concerns and make reasoned ethical choices informed by professional codes of conduct.
9. Adopt an inclusive approach to engineering practice and recognise the responsibilities, benefits and importance of supporting equality, diversity and inclusion.

Assessment

Achievement may be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and may include written examinations, in-class and online tests, problem sheets, assignments, and coursework in the form of projects, reports, presentations and posters.
