Learning outcomes

. Articulate the main methods of mathematical and statistical investigation.

2. Understand the foundations of probability theory.

3. Understand the foundations of financial and management accounting.

4. Understand the foundations of the theory and applications of economics.

5. Manipulate simple mathematical models to generate results.

6. Construct simple mathematical argument.

7. Recognise and manipulate common mathematical symbols.

8. Write in coherent mathematical sentences.

9. Show acquaintance with some mathematical and statistical software or programming languages.

10. Communicate statistical findings accurately.

11. Appreciate that ethical issues exist in the study of mathematics. Appreciate the importance of academic integrity. Recognise different, valid justifications of the same mathematical fact.

Assessment

The majority of modules will be assessed through a combination of in-person exams and coursework assignments. The form of the coursework will vary from module to module but typically would involve solving sets of problems which may or may not require the use of computer packages or computer programming. Project based modules will be assessed through written submissions and presentations.
