Learning outcomes
On completion of the level 1 of the programme you should have provided evidence of being able to:1. Describe and discuss the structure and function of biological macromolecules using the principles and concepts of chemistry 2. Describe cellular organisation and the key cellular processes that sustain life 3. Describe the processes of DNA replication, transcription and translation, and protein folding4. Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of, and practical competencies in foundational experimental techniques used for the study of biochemistry 5. Design, implement and record simple appropriately controlled biochemical experiments6. Apply laboratory safety, ethical and professional practices in a range of situations, in individual and in group contextsSkills Learning Outcomes1. Demonstrate skills in handling scientific information; including locating and selecting relevant information from appropriate sources and using it to solve problems2. Handle data confidently and reliably, and apply relevant simple statistical analyses using appropriate software 3. Prepare written work and present data using appropriate software, and in relevant formats4. Read and write basic computer code competently
Assessment
During the first year we will gradually introduce the students to university-level assessment using a range of coursework and examination types. Formative exercises throughout the year in conjunction with a range of feedback methods will be used to prepare students for these assessments.
