Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students on this programme will:

- Demonstrate an understanding of key economic concepts, theories, ideas and analytical tools and the social and historical contexts of their development. (PA1)
- Show knowledge of the economic environment (including economic institutions, systems and phenomena) and the changes in this environment. (PA2)
- Indicate an appreciation of the areas to which economics can and cannot be applied. (PA3)
- Evaluate economic, social and business issues. (PA4)
- Demonstrate the ability to apply and use understanding of economics to solve economic problems. (PA5)
- Show evidence of becoming an independent learner, who is able to communicate and collaborate. (PA6)
- Show an awareness and ability to operate in regard to, ethical and cultural issues. (PA7)

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;
- decision making skills; and
- more advanced quantitative, research and essay writing skills.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects/competencies of the discipline/profession to complex, albeit standard, situations and simple, albeit novel or atypical, instances;
- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;
- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to the discipline; and
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
