Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- understand and demonstrate coherent and detailed subject knowledge and professional competencies some of which will be informed by recent research/scholarship in Social Policy and Sociology;- deploy accurately standard techniques of analysis and enquiry within Social Policy and Sociology;- demonstrate a conceptual understanding which enables the development and sustaining of an argument in Social Policy and Sociology;- describe and comment on particular aspects of recent research and/or scholarship in Social Policy and Sociology;- appreciate the uncertainty, ambiguity and limitations of Social Policy and Sociological knowledge;- make appropriate use of scholarly reviews and primary sources in Social Policy and Sociology;- apply their knowledge and understanding in order to initiate and carry out an extended piece of work or project in Social Policy and Sociology;- conform to professional boundaries and norms where applicable.- the ability to retrieve, manage and manipulate large and complex datasets;- the ability to produce accurate descriptions of data using numerical summaries and effective data visualisation;- the ability to use statistical models to answer substantive research questions;- the ability to write sociological research reports based on quantitative data in a critical and reflective way.
