Learning outcomes

On completion of the level 3 of the programme you should have provided evidence of being able to:

1. Demonstrate a sophisticated and integrated understanding of a range of cutting-edge topics relevant to one of the selected themes: molecular medicine, infection and disease or genome biology and disease.
2. Appraise up-to-date developments and hypotheses within the selected theme making use of scholarly reviews and primary sources, identifying uncertainly, ambiguity and limitations of knowledge.
3. Deploy advanced analytical and data handling skills to critically evaluate quantitative and qualitative data and devise solutions to unfamiliar problems associated with the selected theme.
4. Undertake an extended investigative project, designing appropriate research strategies to test complex scientific questions in an area relevant to the selected theme.
5. Identify and implement health and safety, ethical regulations and environmental considerations through the completion of an extended final year project and other relevant contexts.


Skills Learning Outcomes

1. Effectively explain, critique and propose ways in which researchers in the biological sciences can contribute to developing sustainable solutions to current and future world challenges.
2. Effectively communicate and critique biological sciences information, ideas, problems and solutions in various formats and to a range of audiences.
3. Demonstrate skills necessary for exercising personal responsibility, self-management, organisation and decision making in complex and unpredictable situations.
4. Demonstrate effective teamworking skills in a range of situations including inter-disciplinary contexts.

Assessment

Our assessment approach at level 3 will allow you to demonstrate the breadth and depth of your understanding and application of knowledge and skills learnt in earlier years. Assessments at level 3 will include an extended piece of work, data handling and problem-solving exercises, group work, discussion groups, essays, posters and oral presentations. We support learners in their assessment journey through the provision of practice questions, sessions on how to complete assessment questions and ongoing feedback.
